Safety at the Spa

News outlets around the world are warning spa patrons that unless proper cleaning and maintenance techniques are strictly followed by each and every pedicurist, they run the risk of severe infection, disfigurement and, in rare cases, even death.  CNN Headline Prime and WFAA Dallas/Fort Worth Channel 8 News have both featured interviews with women who have suffered serious disfigurement after having a pedicure.  You must take steps to protect yourself!

In a letter to Kristy Underwood, the Executive Officer of the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology at the California Department of Consumer Affairs, John Haase, the President of Phoenix Divina Products, LLC., says the following:

"I believe that our focus must be on the disinfection of the water in the foot bath during the pedicure service! This is the key to preventing infectious outbreaks in the Pedicure Industry. The main reason for this is that the route for an infection is through an opening in your skin. If a throne has an infectious contamination in it, the client would most likely never encounter the infectious contamination if water was never introduced to the chair. My point is that the water is in fact the “VEHICLE” in which all contamination travels. Compounding the situation, warm water opens the pores in our skin allowing contamination in more easily. It is also my belief that most infectious and therefore hazardous contamination found in the pedicure foot bath comes into the foot bath from the client. If you do not disinfect the water there is a real opportunity for a customer to bring contamination into the salon, sit down for a pedicure and actually leave with an infected hair follicle from something that came from under his/her own toenail."

"Furthermore, I feel strongly that a major “SOURCE” of this epidemic size problem comes from within the plumbing of these chairs. The scale and Bio-film accumulation that is taking place daily creates an environment for an infectious outbreak if not routinely removed. This also plays an extremely important role in the disinfectant’s efficacy. When the contamination load is heavy the disinfectant is spending much of its usefulness sanitizing the contamination instead of disinfecting the water. If the contamination load is too heavy, you will not disinfect. Clean pipes are more important than cleaning the basin after every client, because the average service technician will clean the bowl if it is dirty."

Divina Professional Products has proven to the California EPA that Pediclear™ is extremely effective at protecting salon patrons from exposure to infectious contamination such as Mycobacterium.  In fact, Pediclear™ has been proven to kill 99.99% of all harmful contamination in just 30 seconds!  Take spa safety into your own hands and protect yourself from contamination!
